| Do it Yourself? Yeah, Right. [home] [next topic] | |
| This is a perfectly
feasible thing to do. You can save about half of the
expense of hiring some professional service. You still
have to buy the equipment and the chemicals and you won't
be happy when you find out what they cost, but still, you
can save about half. Here are some things to think about.
1. Do you have enough technical know-how? Do you know how to read a chemical label and figure out how much to use to be effective? Do you know enough about safety dealing with these chemicals (remember, everything we use is poison) to protect yourself when you use them and to protect your family as well? Do you know that some pesticides won't hardly kill some types of bugs, but others will knock 'em down easy, and do you know which ones are which? Do you know that some formulations (that means how they are physically made) work well on some surfaces and won't do well on others? Do you know enough about how each species lives so you know where to spray for effective work? Just some things to think about. 2. How long do you think it's gonna take you to do this? How often are you going to do it, and how are you going to make sure you don't forget, then have bugs all over? For your information, it takes us say, 20 minutes. You, on the other hand, are going to have to dig through your garage, find the sprayer, find the chemicals, get something to measure with, put some water in the sprayer to make sure it works, load it, and do the work. Wait a minute, we're not done yet. You have to put everything up, and clean the sprayer every single time you use it, or, next month, it will be all stuck together. Then, you'll have to tear it apart and clean the whole thing, probably have to go buy parts, before you can finish the job. Sounds like about 2 hours, on the average, to me. What are you gonna do when the sprayer doesn't work? Is it broke, and you have to buy another one, or can you buy a $1 filter, replace it, and you're back in business? I certainly don't know how much free time you have, what it's worth to you, and how you like to use it, but....................is this really the way you want to save $10 a month? I think I'd rather be fishing, given a choice. For more information, go back to the home page and see the next topic. |
